Interest in the Arctic has grown exponentially in the past few years and with that has come research dollars. As the largest research institute in the state, the Geophysical Institute's projects in space science, permafrost, earthquakes and volcanoes brings bring in state, federal and DoD funding that in turn supports Alaska businesses and the local economy.
