“Tufted Tail” by Teal Francis will be on view at Ursa Major Distilling through the month of September. The exhibition features creatures and shape forms interacting with each other in simplified landscapes. The pieces consist of screen printed fabric, printed linocut, and gouache paintings collaged on wood. Ursa Major Distilling is open Wednesday through Saturday from 3-8 pm. The exhibition is heavily rooted in the idea of play as an instigator of fun and openness. “Tufted Tail” embraces simplicity and silliness because these are concepts we need more of in a serious and productivity-oriented society. Through odd creatures and questionable shapes, we can begin to imagine a world that is not so rigidly defined and instead leaves more room for imagination, openness, and curiosity. Teal Francis is an artist living and working in Fairbanks. Born in Central Oregon, she has a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Nevada, Reno and a Bachelor of Arts from Colorado College. She has worked in printmaking studios in Seattle and Reno and currently works at Fairbanks Arts Association. She is a printmaker, primarily working in block and screen printing, painter, sculptor, and aspiring sewist. She can be found online at tealfrancis.com and on Instagram at tealarrow.
