Adult Education/GED Program Support Specialist

Overview:
The Literacy Council of Alaska is looking for an Adult Education/GED Program Support Specialist to assist with daily activities of instructors, students, volunteers, and program communications. Job duties include  telephone and email correspondence, data entry, ordering supplies, helping with events, and student intake. The Program Support Specialist has the opportunity to make a difference in their community by assisting adult students as they work toward their education and career goals.

Job Duties: 

  • Communication 

    • Call, text, and email current and prospective students 

    • Manage study hall schedule 

    • Update Program Coordinator and tutors on student communications

    • Document student communications and updates

  • Reporting 

    • Enroll students in State of Alaska database

    • Track and enter attendance and student information according to State of Alaska policies 

    • Manage internal databases 

    • Analyze and/or report student data for program monitoring and improvement

  • Outreach 

    • Create and distribute GED materials, forms, and flyers 

    • Communicate with agency partners and prospective students about upcoming events and registration opportunities

  • Administration

    • Administer assessments and practice tests

    • Assist with orientation and enrollment processes including preparation, assisting with paperwork, sharing information with students, and enrolling students in statewide and internal databases

    • Assist Program Coordinator with planning of events such as graduations and orientations 

    • Assist tutors with administrative tasks as needed

Job Skills and Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Two years of administrative experience

  • Ability to multitask and stay focused in a busy environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interact with students and other agencies

  • Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, especially when dealing with large amounts of information

  • Experience with computers, Google Suite, and database management

  • Must be able to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Has worked or volunteered with LCA for 6+ months 

  • 1+ year of experience working with State or Federal Grants

  • 1+ year of experience with administrative duties in a non-profit or education setting
