GVEA is an electric cooperative which maintains 3,292 miles of transmission and distribution lines, 40 substations, and 9 generating facilities. Our system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson AFB, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, and all of the electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, extending from Homer to Fairbanks. As an Energy Management Specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, you will provide exceptional support to our cooperative's residential and commercial members through a variety of initiatives. Your role will involve delivering technical guidance on energy efficiency and beneficial electrification, while also engaging in public outreach to promote awareness of demand-side management strategies, including demand response and small-scale renewable energy programs. By offering administrative support for these critical projects, you'll help empower our members to make informed decisions about their energy consumption, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future for the Fairbanks community.

To excel as an Energy Management Specialist at Golden Valley Electric Association, candidates must possess a strong educational background, ideally with a BS degree from an ABET-accredited program in engineering, environmental sciences, community planning, or business development. An Associate degree combined with two years of relevant energy systems/audit experience or five years of electric utility work experience is also acceptable. A valid Alaska driver's license is required. Candidates should either hold or be willing to obtain certifications such as Energy Manager In Training or Energy Efficiency Practitioner within six months. Successful individuals will have a solid understanding of customer relations and energy use theories, as well as practical knowledge of solar systems, HVAC, lighting, motors, heat pumps, construction processes, building electrical systems, and load management technologies.
Strong communication skills are essential to effectively engage with members and foster community outreach.
